“Gone from the Frying Pan into the Fire”

The Baby Boomer doesn’t usually enjoy talking about “hot button” topics like politics, but due too so many folks fanatically being so outlandishly emotional about this year’s presidential election you’ve forced me to provide you with some “common sense thoughts” “from one man’s perspective” as we’ve “gone from the frying pan into the fire”.

Hey, I’m extremely upset as well, but for a variety of different reasons. You see, as an Independent, when I vote, I do so for the person and not the Party and if a candidate fails to meet my standard, I don’t vote–it’s just that simple. It’s so hard to believe our country is unable to entice anyone to become our president other than Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. It’s really and truly despicable that those of you who are so emotional, should question your common sense, by being willing to support either one of these miserable candidates–you’re not going to vote for someone, but instead for who you consider to be the “lesser of two evils”. You guys aren’t FOR either one of these losers, rather you’re just AGAINST one or the other with such angst and you’re wasting your vote. Instead divert your energies to finding and supporting viable candidates who measure up to your expectations.

Please don’t believe the POTUS is the most powerful person in the world as the media would lead you to believe and, oh, by the way, would anyone with any common sense listen to the media–liberal or conservative. Wasn’t the media so much more believable before the advent of cable “back in the day” when it was only ABC, CBS, and NBC?

Understand today’s POTUS is merely a figurehead with such little individual power. The last presidents with any true power came from the mid-20th Century. The federal government has continued to grow, and grow, and grow, becoming this unmanageable behemoth now employing almost three million people. In my humble opinion, we’ve only had three overall decent presidents in the modern era–FDR, Truman, and Reagan–the rest have been average at best promising a bunch and delivering on little.

With so little individual power I want my POTUS to be a cheerleader for the United States–a bright, principled person who is honest and maintains the highest degree of moral character and integrity. My president should be an enthusiastic, positive, and a charismatic communicator who is a great orator able to earn the respect from the citizenry of the United States and people from around the world representing our best interest.

Again, in the modern era, in my humble opinion, only five presidents have been excellent communicators: FDR, JFK, Reagan, Clinton, and Obama with really only FDR and Reagan accomplishing anything substantial.

Unless you live in what are considered this year’s “battleground” states, your vote for president means very, very little. The Executive branch of our government is in a state laden with “red tape” and bureaucracy. Where your vote does count, though, is in the Legislative branch of our government where they make the laws which truly can affect you. One of the major reasons Biden was ousted was his negative affect on “down-ballots”. The key for both the Democrats and Republicans is controlling both the House and the Senate–not who becomes the President of the United States. Honestly, those elected officials who have the greatest impact on you are those who represent your local community. So, be certain to cast your votes for those in the Legislative branch as they affect you most.

Hey, Biden didn’t want to go, but “Joe Had to Go”! Believe me, he wasn’t going to win the election and it took people like Obama, Clinton, and Pelosi to wake him up to that fact. Not only was his staying in the race going to negatively impact the “down ballots”, but the MONEY supposedly needed to run the campaign had all but stopped coming in.

Speaking of MONEY are you aware that almost $10 billion dollars will be spent on this year’s elections for Congress, the Senate, and for POTUS!! Folks, if you don’t think that’s utterly ridiculous then I have a beautiful piece of oceanfront property for you in the state of Kansas. I don’t know about you, but couldn’t those funds be spent in a less ridiculous and much more productive way. Historically, only about two-thirds of the electorate eligible to vote in a presidential election actually cast a vote which adds up to about 63 million votes.

Believe the Baby Boomer when he tells you your elected officials are NOT working for you as they’re spending the majority of their time fundraising for themselves. Our transportation company, over the twenty years I was in the business, drove dozens of elected officials whose time spent on the phone in the back of our vehicles was doing nothing but raising funds for their next campaign–NOT working for you!!

Speaking of MONEY, the root of all evil, once you follow it, you’ll soon figure out who really runs our country–corporate America! The largest and most powerful companies in America either through lobbyists, special interests, PACs, or their own government affairs offices control our country. Certainly, not the POTUS who, again, truly has very little power and their presence is rather insignificant today. Again, it’s all about the MONEY!!

Not certain how you may feel, but I can no longer trust the media whether it be from the left or the right. Those who are supposedly reporting the news have gone way beyond their role as they have all become “pundits” offering their opinion on how they see things. Folks, that’s not their job as the only opinions I listen to are my own or those of my family. Additionally, with the advent of artificial intelligence (AI) how can anyone trust anything said in the media.

Technology is what runs campaigns today. It’s so advanced in what it measures that both parties already know which candidate is going to win the electoral votes from each state other than a small handful of “battleground” states where the candidates will spend the vast majority of their time and MONEY with their campaigns focusing on the very few precincts in each of those states which will sway the election in their favor. It’s utterly ridiculous, but true, that this is how elections are run and won today. Again, if you don’t live in a so-called “battleground” state, your vote really doesn’t matter and it’s time for you to just settle down!

I will tell you the Republican National Convention (RNC) was very well run. It was both organized and synchronized. It actually led me to believe I just might be able to cast a vote for president and that I would vote for Trump. That is, especially, after what was a near-fatal assassination attempt giving some hope that he would calm way down and act more presidential. Unfortunately, that was not the case as his acceptance speech was more of the same rambling and ranting.

There was no way I could ever have cast a vote Biden and Harris is only a worse choice as “we’ve gone from the frying pan into the fire”!! From the Baby Boomer’s perspective, if the American electorate had any common sense whatsoever no one would vote for either of these terrible candidates and on November 6, the final tally of votes would be zero to zero–it’s only fitting!

Really, and I mean really, something is wrong if you can cast a vote for either of these candidates as the only wasted vote is a vote for someone you don’t believe in!! Again, it’s time for you to settle down!

Campaign reform is far overdue. I say let’s do away with all the MONEY, all the media, and all the advertising. That the two qualified and viable candidates adopt the practice from way “back in the day” of conducting a “whistlestop campaign” where together, they both carry on their campaign by boarding a train and crisscross the country making hundreds of stops and speaking face to face with the electorate allowing them to decide who should be president–makes sense to the Baby Boomer and maybe, just maybe, everyone will finally settle down!
